Well, Elizabeth went to her first movie theater this weekend as we all went to see Ponyo.
Ponyo is a fun film for families and is rated G. It begins when five year old boy named Sosuke finds a goldfish trapped in a bottle. He rescues the fish, names it Ponyo and brings it home to his house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Ponyo is magical and when she licks a cut on Sosuke's finger to heal it, she tastes human blood and desires to become human. When Ponyo uses her magic to become human, things get a little out of hand.
The film is a colorful beauty of animated sealife, the music is wonderful and the characters absolutely charming. Harmony between mankind and the environment is a theme Miyazaki resonates in all of his films but Ponyo does not stop there. Ponyo is a charming tale about the beauty of innocense and the magic of love and friendship.
