Fortunately, only turning two, she was completely ignorant of any understanding of what exactly her birthday is so I didn't feel too guilty when the move and unpacking necessitated pushing her birthday party back a bit. About two weeks actually. We did take her out to lunch and give her a treat on her actual birthday, but it was hard to do much more than that at the time. We did pick up one present for her on her birthday, courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa, from IKEA:
I think she likes it. :)
Last weekend, we finally had a little party for our shiny new two year old.
Elizabeth struggled a bit to blow out her candles. Fortunately she has two very helpful sisters.
Happily, Elizabeth's Godmother was able to come (she is holding Teresa). My mom is in the foreground and in the background is Cecilia's and Felicity's Godmother and her little one and then Elizabeth's Godmother's son and daughter.
Cecilia and Felicity each got a dress from James' parents.
And then they were very eager to help Elizabeth open her own presents.
I love that Elizabeth's Godmother is as pro children's books as I am. New books!
It was a bit of a struggle to keep Elizabeth focused on opening her presents. My dad even got on the floor to sit with her and try to help her.
I think by the time we had eaten and had cake though, despite an earlier nap, she was waning and the constant stimulation was taking its toll as wrapping paper and gifts struggled to maintain her attention.
Cecilia became a regular Vanna White though showing around each gift Elizabeth got.
At the end of the day, it was a really nice party. I can't believe she is two already. Where does the time go? It is wonderful as she grows though to see her personality blossom. If I had to pick one word to describe her now it would be "Happy." She rebounds quickly from everything and is always so happy-go-lucky. If Cecilia is my Tigger, Elizabeth is my Happy (for the Disney-oriented). (I'm still trying to figure out which character I'd call Felicity. Is there a Disney character that is quieter, more reflective and very sharing?)
Happy 2nd Birthday to my Happy Elizabeth!
