October Learning Notes: Week 12

We had a catch up week scheduled, but the only school work we were behind on was Elizabeth had a bit of math to do but she finished by Tuesday. We spent a lot of the beginning of the week cleaning. The whole house was in a desperate need of dusting, vacuuming, etc. So we cleaned a lot and got the lawn mowed. Then we dealt with 4 dental check ups for the 4 oldest girls, all of which went well.
Monday was my birthday, so we went out to eat at Cracker Barrel and the kids played checkers.
On Tuesday, the Archdiocese had a special Mass of Hope and Healing for those who have suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth. We all went and honored and remembered Christopher, though the younger ones struggled to be good.
I also pulled the remaining carrots from our garden since the weather was expected to turn very cold. They were small but we enjoyed them with a roast on Wednesday night.
On Thursday we drove out to Mt. Horeb, the troll capital of the world, and had lunch at The Grumpy Troll.
Then we drove just a bit more west and went to the Cave of the Mounds.
The kids did a fossil dig, toured the very impressive cave and sluiced for gem stones.
Cave Bacon
Stalagmite
Soda Straws
Stalactites
Cave Coral
The phosphorescent Manganese and Calcite in the walls.
Friday we belatedly celebrated Thomas' birthday, but that will be its own post. Saturday Elizabeth had her zoo class on skeletons and we all went to a local retreat center for an All Saints Day Celebration where the kids got to learn about different Saints and collect treats and goodies.
