November Learning Notes: Week 16

We went back to work with 3 weeks of school work before Christmas break. No one really wanted to do much but we got back to work anyway. Monday we did religion, Teresa's lesson focusing on the parable of the Good Samaritan and the Corporal Works of Mercy and the older three and I reading through the first 30 verses of the 13th chapter of Matthew. We also began reading Milton Lomask's Ship's Boy with Magellan. Unfortunately, Monday evening, Brigid threw up. So Tuesday morning we were taking it a bit slower and easier. We got less bookwork done than Monday, but we did read Katharine Bailey's book Ferdinand Magellan, Lorene Lambert's Who in the World was The Forgotten Explorer on Amerigo Vespucci, Carole March's Pedro Alvarez Cabral, Katharine Bailey's Vasco da Gama, and the Story of the World's section on Magellan and Vespucci.

Wednesday I did have a doctor's check up, but we did manage to do our zoology lesson on praying mantises, dragonflies, grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, aphids and cicadas.

Thursday I got the Thanksgiving/Fall decorations all put away and all the Advent things out. Even with Advent not beginning until Sunday, since many items begin counting down from December 1st, I figured I should have it out for Friday.

On Saturday, Felicity and Brigid had their zoo classes. Felicity's was on rocks and how animals use rocks from digestion to nests to homes to toys. Brigid's class was on reindeer.
